Articulating values provides everyone with guiding lights and ways to choose among competing priorities about the ways in which people will work together.  To this end, the Strategic Planning/Special Interest Group (SIG) conducted a ‘Value Audit” of the attendees at the 2001 CACHE meeting.  Using fax-back surveys and telephone interviews, about 40 participants of the SIG vetted the data on the important issues facing the association and presented their findings to the 2002 CACHE General Assembly.

In 2004, the 13 participants at a CACHE Retreat reviewed and updated the Values.  While the core values remained the same, members at the Retreat introduced new values to reflect current trends.

Based on the process described above, the current Values of CACHE are as follows:

  • Uniquely CanadianValues
  • Representative of stakeholders, with balance
  • Meeting Place, Exchange, Relationships, Networking, Forum, Home
  • Leaders, Advocacy
  • Fostering, Collaborative
  • Interdisciplinary
  • Expansion, Growth
  • Original research, national research, research for all
  • Financially sound
