Dear CACHE Fall Summit participant...

On behalf of the Canadian Association for Continuing Health Education (CACHE) we would like to sincerely thank you for your active participation in the CACHE Fall Summit, held in Toronto on Friday October 10th. The meeting certainly generated a lot of interest from all stakeholders involved in CHE/CME/CPD in Canada, as demonstrated by the overwhelming response from our 106 participants.

The primary objective of the meeting was to bring together multiple Canadian stakeholders, and their organizational perspectives, to dialogue and exchange on the current and future needs for a collaborative CME and CHE environment. The quantity and quality of information captured from the large number of stakeholder groups represented at the Summit is so impressive, we can confidently consider this objective met.

As you know, the Fall Summit is just the very first step of an iterative process and begins a dialogue that will continue. The complexity of this topic is such that further discussion and debate is required to deliver on our longer-term objective to consolidate the multiple perspectives of our Canadian stakeholders to develop and publish a position paper that will reflect and guide the direction of CME and CHE in our country. Over the next few months we intend to pull together the data that was collected and to use this to define an aligned position on a collaborative CHE environment.

The slide presentations from our 5 keynote speakers are now posted for your reference. Click here to access the Summit materials and Evaluation Form (login required).

NEXT STEPS
The data collected during the summit meeting through audio recordings, flip charts and post-it notes will be consolidated and analyzed. Key statements summarizing the discussion will then be posted online soliciting validation and further collection of feedback. We anticipate that the results of this consultation will be submitted for publication in early spring 2009.

The CACHE board, which was founded on a model of collaboration, believes that it is time to define the state of CHE in Canada and develop a model for the future. We are inviting leaders from academia, regulatory bodies, professional societies, government, and industry, to continue this dialogue.

Yours sincerely
Bernard Marlow Suzanne Murray
CACHE President CACHE Fall Summit Chair

Madame, Monsieur,

Bernard Marlow Suzanne Murray

Update re. CACHE Summit – October 10, 2008

We have engaged the services of Syntegrity Group to facilitate a portion of our day by applying components from their SyntegrationTM methodology to optimize the interactions among all Summit participants.  Below is a description of how the day will unfold.

For each of the 3 questions that we’ve come to discuss, we will be holding 2 concurrent roundtable discussions. Each roundtable discussion will be 1 hour long and will involve panellist (invited speakers). Participants at each table will play the following roles:

Format

PANELIST (INVITED SPEAKERS)- will lead the discussion on each question and will be responsible for the final output produced in that one hour session.  They will do so by engaging in candid dialogue amongst themselves and pausing at pre-determined points to consider input from the Respondents.  There will be approximately 9 Members on each team and we will ensure that there is a good spread of the represented perspectives on each team (Academia, Industry, Government and Professional Associations).

RESPONDENTS – In addition to the panellist, registered attendees be invited to play the Respondents role.  In this role, they will ask questions of and offer feedback to Panellist. Their input is offered as guidance and it will be up to the Panellist to determine what to do with that feedback.  There will be approximately 5 respondents for each roundtable discussion, each of whom will be limited to 1 minute for providing input. The remaining participants will be observers.

OBSERVERS – will only be listening.

Respondents and observer seats will be filled by the non-panellist participants with each non-panellist getting an opportunity to play the respondents role once and the observer role twice.

Team discussions will be facilitated and scribed by Syntegrity Group facilitators so that participants can see a capture of the discussion unfolding in real time. Following the 3 rounds of paired meetings, all participants will be able to provide additional input via sticky notes.

We look forward to this innovative approach as it will result in a more engaging experience and a better outcome for all.
